That's the screenshot line. The rest of this piece explains the mechanism behind it, because the recommendation only makes sense once you see what a time-first tool actually does at each stage of a workout — before it, during it, and after it.

How we evaluated

We did not run these apps through a gym session and we're not going to pretend we did. This is a synthesis, and here is what it's built from:

  • Owner reviews. Seconds Pro sits at roughly 4.9 stars across tens of thousands of App Store ratings at the time of writing, and we read through a large sample of them, weighting recurring complaints and recurring praise over one-off opinions. We did the same for its competitors.
  • Independent roundups and tester commentary from fitness and tech publications, which are consistent in one respect: dedicated timers win on control, big platforms win on content.
  • General exercise-science context. Tennis conditioning leans on repeated short-burst work — the sport's rally structure is widely characterized in the coaching literature as efforts in the range of several seconds followed by rest periods a few times longer. Who this is for — and who it isn't
